#HelpFindLee: Update: Police vow to keep on searching for missing three-year-old

‘We will keep on searching until we can provide the family with the proper closure’

It has been eight weeks since the disappearance of the three-year-old Liyaqat ‘Lee’ Mentoor, and there are still no answers.

Although the police have the person who was the last one to see Lee on 16 March, when he was allegedly kidnapped, in custody, they have not received any information from him.

The 29-year-old Onke Hartin Mashini has been charged with child neglect, kidnapping, murder and defeating the ends of justice, and will be appearing in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court again on 24 May.

“We would like to assure the family, as well as the community, that we are doing everything we can to solve this case.

This is a priority case for us, as we want to give the family, as well as the community, the closure they are asking for. Lee has crept into all of our hearts, and we want to ensure that he will always be remembered,” said Captain Sonja Prinsloo, spokesperson for the Roodepoort Police.

She added that they do have various leads that they are following up, but, due to the sensitive nature of the case, they cannot divulge exactly what they are. “But, rest assured, we will not rest until we have all the answers,” she concluded.
