Women give crime the boot at self-defence workshop

Captain Bouwer from the Provincial Police provided valuable information on security issues.

The Muldersdrift Disaster Management team and Carolyn Lanzillotti, chairperson of the Honeydew Sector 3 Community Policing Forum hosted a women’s self-defence workshop at Cradlestone Mall on Saturday, 5 May.

The workshop was presented by Captain Bouwer from the Provincial Police and provided valuable information on security issues in women’s daily lives, from ATM safety to armed robbery, violent crime and rape. The workshop, which offers a simple and easy start to effective self-defence, was attended by over 60 women.

The women thoroughly enjoyed their morning, and through discussion and role-play, gained valuable insights into personal safety.

The profits from the workshop were donated to The Bethany House Trust for much-needed operational costs for the new Muldersdrift Child and Family Welfare office that is being sponsored and run by the Trust.

If anyone is interested in booking a workshop for their company, school or club, they can contact Shenan Cochrane on 083 510 4745. The group is planning its next workshop and more details are available from Shenan at thecradlenews@gmail.com.
