Fourie’s family welcomes suspension of assaulter

De Lange told Northsider that she was surprised when she read about the man’s suspension.

Amanda de Lange, the Krugersdorp Freedom Front Plus councillor, has welcomed the action taken by the company of the man who allegedly assaulted her pregnant daughter at Steers in Ruimsig.

De Lange told Northsider that she was surprised when she read about the man’s suspension. “We are surprised with the developments that we saw in the media,” she said.

It has been reported that the man, known as Romeo Makhubela, who is a CEO at Novare Consultants, was suspended pending an investigation by the company.

Makhubela was filmed shoving Fourie, who is eight months pregnant, at Steers in Featherbrook Village in Ruimsig on 26 April. The video subsequently went viral, sparking outrage from social media users.

De Lange provided proof of a case being opened on 3 May at Krugersdorp Police Station. It has since been transferred to Honeydew Police Station for further investigation.

It was reported that Makhubela also opened a case of crimen injuria against Fourie. Spokesperson for the Honeydew Police, Captain Balan Muthan, confirmed the case. “A case of crimen injuria was opened by the man against the woman for using the K-word,” he said. Muthan said he wasn’t aware of the assault case.

Discussing what comes next, De Lange said she was arranging a meeting with the investigating officer and her legal adviser to get direction on the way forward.
