Unbranded courier vehicle hijacked in Witpoortjie

The courier assistant said he was returning from a shop when he noticed his colleague being shoved out of the vehicle by the armed men.

 

A courier driver and his assistant are reeling in shock after they were allegedly hijacked in Witpoortjie on General Pienaar Avenue, opposite the Spar, this morning, Friday, 4 May.

The occupants, who were approached by the Record while reporting the matter to the police at the scene, alleged that one of the occupants was held at gunpoint by four men who drove off in their unbranded Nissan NP 400 bakkie.

The courier assistant said he was returning from a shop when he noticed his colleague being shoved out of the vehicle by the armed men.

According to an onlooker that alerted the police and tracking company, a suspicious bakkie with four men was seen parked in the area prior to the incident.

To the relief of the occupants, it has been reported that the bakkie was apparently recovered in Princess, shortly after the incident. It is unclear whether the suspects were nabbed as well.

The Roodepoort Police Station could not be reached for comment. As this is a developing story, further information will be published as it is made available.
