Mashaba to represent the City of Johannesburg at the 2018 Ibrahim Governance

The aim of the gathering is to find solutions for building an effective and efficient public service fit for the 21st century Africa.

“I am pleased to announce that I will be travelling to Kigali, Rwanda, for the 2018 Ibrahim Governance to represent the City of Johannesburg. This is one of the most important gatherings of critical thinkers and leaders in the public services sector in Africa,” said the City of Johannesburg Executive Mayor, councillor Herman Mashaba.

The event is organised by the Mo Ibrahim Foundation and headed by philanthropist, Mohammed Ibrahim. The aim of the gathering is to find solutions for building an effective and efficient public service fit for 21st century Africa.

“As home to the economic hub of Africa, it is fitting that the City of Johannesburg be represented at such an event. The City’s participation at this weekend’s gathering is especially important given our multi-party government’s efforts to build a professional civil service in Johannesburg as a pre-requisite for achieving quality service delivery,” said Mashaba.

Mashaba also mentioned that one of the first things the DA did after assuming office was to focus its efforts on conducting an independent skills audit within the City, to ensure that all managers in the City are in their positions because of what they know and that they can deliver results that bring positive change to the lives of the City’s residents.

“I look forward to sharing my experiences in this regard with my colleagues on the continent so that we may build a public service that is geared towards the needs of the people of Africa, rather than the whims of politicians,” he concluded.
