Honeydew losing crime battle

The Sector 2 CPF meeting was held in Honeydew Police Station's boardroom on 27 April.

 

Sergeant Nicholas Makhura, the manager of the Honeydew Policing Forum Sector 2, admitted that they are losing the battle against house robberies during a Sector 2 meeting on 27 April.

While dissecting the crime statistics, Makhura indicated that crime in the area is very unstable as he read the details reflected in the crime books.

“We lost the battle with house robberies but won with house-breakings,” he said. He explained why they are unable to stabilise these crimes.

“When we concentrate on one specific type of crime, the criminals focus on another type. In other words, when we tackle house-breakings, we tend to lose with house robberies,” he explained.

He also indicated that criminals target homes closer to good escape routes and said that Albert Street, Jim Fouché Road, and Christiaan De Wet Road are most commonly used.

He added that these roads also contributed immensely to theft out of motor vehicle and hijackings.
