National Strike: Warning circulating a hoax

Warning not issued by police.

A warning regarding tomorrow’s (25 April) national strike currently doing the rounds on social media has been debunked as a hoax.

The warning is advising people who do not partake in the strike to stay indoors and avoid travelling. It is also encouraging people to tell taxi and truck drivers to not operate tomorrow and claims that law enforcement agencies will be working double shifts anticipating unrest. It furthermore warns those that do not join the strike not to “resolve or undermine those taking part in the strike”.

In Johannesburg, protesters will in fact assemble at Newtown Precinct Park at 10am from where they will march to the Department of Labour, the provincial Department of Health and the Premier’s office.
