Monthly municipal accounts to be delayed

The City is anticipating that municipal statements should reach customers before the end of April 2018.

Residents of the City of Johannesburg may experience some delays in retrieving their monthly municipal accounts for April.

Those who are facing challenges in receiving monthly municipal accounts are urged to visit municipal offices with their account details to get immediate help.

The City is anticipating that municipal statements should reach residents before the end of April. Statements on E-services should also be available for downloading and viewing by 20 April.

However, residents may request a balance on their municipal accounts from the Call Centre by using the self-help option or visit any Customer Service Centre where they will be able to view their municipal statements.

Residents can also obtain balances on their municipal statements by dialing the Call Centre on 0860 562 874. Option 1 offers an automated balance enquiry system.

Important: When calling the Call Centre, kindly choose Option 1, and follow the prompts. Type in your nine-digit account number and wait for your balance. The City advises callers not to choose the option to hold for an operator to assist as waiting times at the call centre are longer due to the huge demand for this service. Alternatively, residents are urged to use the latest statement received to make a payment. The City emphasises that residents must make payments based on average monthly consumption if no balance or statement is obtained. It is important to continue paying for services used.

Monthly accounts including water and electricity consumption, property rates, sanitation and refuse removal, are payable using any of the following channels:

– Walk in: At any nearby Customer Service Centre office in the City of Johannesburg municipal area, particularly if you are already late with your payment. Operating times are 7:30am to 3:30pm on weekdays, and 7:30am to 12:00pm during weekends. The City only accepts cash and all major card payments.

– Internet Payments: Kindly arrange with your bank to add the City of Johannesburg as a beneficiary. Visit Standard Bank , Absa, FNB or Nedbank, and others. Your nine-digit municipal account number must be used as your unique customer reference number.

– Easy Pay: Pay at any retail outlet providing the Easy Pay facility, eg., Pick-n-Pay Supermarkets, Shoprite Checkers, Spar Supermarkets and any Easy-Pay Point, as well as other accredited Vendor Points. Remember to retain your slip as proof of payment. Simply take in your previous month’s bill as reference. Be sure to allow time before your account due date for processing the transaction. If you make your payment using this facility, the payment will appear after three business days in your municipal account.

– Debit order: This is the cheapest, most reliable and hassle-free way to pay your account. Visit a Customer Service Centre to apply. The special debit order forms are available at any of the walk-in centres.

The City would like to apologise to its customers for any inconvenience caused.
