Two new hijacking hotspots identified

Awareness campaign held to sensitise public to the dangers of hijacking.

On Tuesday, 17 April, from 9am until noon a group of Florida Police communication officials embarked on an awareness campaign to curb the escalating incidents of hijackings at areas currently regarded as hot spots.

Drivers were given pamphlets with safety tips to sensitise them about the hijackings that are still happening at the targeted hotspots, namely the corner of Albertina Sisulu and Spencer Roads and the corner of Spencer and Anvil Roads.

A new favourite method is to bump the victim’s vehicle from behind and when the driver stops, to hijack him or her.

More than 300 pamphlets were distributed, some at the golf course in Maraisburg on Spencer Road, as many people visit it, using Spencer Road to access the property.
