Today in History: Jackie Chan was born; his 10 his highest-earning movies

Jackie Chan has has done just about everything that can be done on the silver screen, but most will know him for his action-packed movies (usually involving some form of martial art).

Jackie Chan was born Chan Kong-sang in Victoria Peak, British Hong Kong, on 7 April 1954, and has arguably become one of the best action-comedy actors of all time.

Chan acquired the first part of his stage name in Canberra, Australia where he worked as a construction worker under a man by the name of Jack.

He became known as ‘Little Jack’, which was later shortened to Jackie and the name has stuck with him ever since.

His career started with small roles in several Chinese movies in the ’60s and ’70s.

Chan’s liking for action movies developed after he worked as a stunt double on two Bruce Lee films at the age of 17.

From there on, his career in action-comedies skyrocketed, leading to him starring in franchises such as Rush Hour and Kung Fu Panda.

Chan is not only good with his hands and feet, he’s good with his vocal chords as well, being an operatically trained vocalist and a Cantopop and Mandopop star, having released a number of albums and sung many of the theme songs for films in which he has starred.
