Today in History: Vincent van Gogh, Celine Dion, Eric Clapton, Sergio Ramos, and Robbie Coltrane were born

With so many celebrities celebrating their birthdays on 30 March, we weren't able to choose someone specific, so here's a star-studded today in history for you.

It seems if you wanted your children to excel at something and eventually be considered an artist in some form or other, they just needed to be born on 30 March.

From award-winning singer and actors, to award-winning soccer stars, 30 March has it all.

So without further ado, here are the famous people who celebrate(d) their birthday on this day.

— Vincent van Gogh

Arguably one of the greatest artists of all time, Van Gogh was born in Groot-Zundert, Netherlands in 1853.

Van Gogh was a largely self-taught artist who remained poor and unknown throughout his life.

He is known as much for his unstable psychological health, including famously cutting off his own ear, as he is for his huge body of post-Impressionist paintings (e.g. “Sunflowers” and “The Starry Night”), drawings, and sketches.

Van Gogh died on 29 July 1890 (aged 37) by committing suicide.

— Celine Dion

One of Canada’s greatest musical exports of all time, Celine Dion was born in Charlemagne, Quebec, Canada in 1968.

Dion emerged first as a teenager in the French-speaking world before making the break in the English-speaking world.

Over a career that has spanned more than two decades, her extensive range of vocals has produced several ballads including arguably her most successful hit, My Heart Will Go On for the 1997 box office hit, Titanic.

— Eric Clapton

Eric Clapton is widely regarded as one of the greatest guitarists to ever strum a guitar.

Clapton was born in Ripley, Surrey, England, in 1945.

Clapton has received 18 Grammy Awards throughout a career that has spanned decades. He has also received the Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music. In 2004, he was awarded a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) at Buckingham Palace for his service to music.

— Sergio Ramos

The rock in the heart of Spanish football side Real Madrid’s defence for the last 13 years, Sergio Ramos was born in Camas, Spain, in 1986.

He is particularly known for his, at times, wild antics on the field, often receiving a yellow or red card.

He has captained the Real Madrid side on several occasions, and the Spanish national team.

— Robbie Coltrane

Born Anthony Robert McMillan, Robbie Coltrane took the stage name Coltrane in tribute to the jazz legend John Coltrone.

Coltrane was born in Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire, Scotland, in 1950.

Coltrane rose to prominence in the 1990s TV drama Cracker playing the role of the psychologist Dr Edward Fitz Fitzgerald, for which he won three British Bafta awards.

He is best known for his portrayal of Rubeus Hagrid in the Harry Potter movie franchise 2001–2011, based on the books by JK Rowling.
