JRA is to embark on a road maintenance and repair programme

Communities are encouraged to report all road- and storm-related emergencies to 0860 562 874.

It has come to light that Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) is due to embark on a maintenance and repair programme that will focus on potholes.

In a recent media release, the Member of the Mayoral Committee for Transport, councillor Nonhlanhla Helen Makhuba, indicated that the programme will be accelerated upon the appointment of Level 1 contractors. The process of selecting these contractors is at an advanced stage and the appointment of local labour will commence once the processes are concluded.

“Due to the heavy rains across the city in the last few days, we have received a number of reports regarding road defects and damage, including bridges, and an increased number of potholes,” said Makhuba.

Makhuba went on to say, “We urge residents to be patient as potholes cannot be repaired whilst the roads are still wet. The teams will start repair work when the roads have dried out and we ask that road users be cooperative and cautious as the teams do their work.”

Communities are encouraged to report all road- and storm-related emergencies to 0860 562 874, by email to hotline@jra.org.za, on Twitter @MyJra or via the JRA Find&Fix Mobile App.
