Annual Lions Buddy Day around the corner

New venue for his year’s event

The annual Lions Clubs International Buddy Day will be hosted on 21 April, and promises once again to be a fun-filled day.

Denise Easton from the Clearwater Cyber Lions Club said this year’s event will be held at a new venue, as West Ridge High School is unable to accommodate them. “We will be hosting the Buddy Day at La Salle College in Discovery. It offers everything we need to ensure a successful morning. There will be a safe, guarded entrance, wheelchair-friendly access to bathroom facilities, space for a covered area to protect everyone from the sun, and in case of rain, a large hall that will accommodate everyone,” Denise said.

The Buddy Day is a celebration of the diversity of the youth on the West Rand when local Lions Club members get together to feed and entertain 150 physically and/ or mentally challenged members of the community. “We ‘buddy’ them up with 150 of the youth from the area for the morning. This serves a dual purpose, as our guests get to have a morning of fun and activities, while giving the youth from our local schools the opportunity to participate in the hardships and difficulties those less fortunate experience on a daily basis,” she said.

Members of the various Lions Clubs provide a packed breakfast snack to start off the day, after which the guests and their able-bodied buddies will enjoy all the fun activities, tasks and games offered at the various stalls.

Local singer, Christian Heath, who has proved himself as a very loyal Lions Clubs supporter, will also be performing on the day.
