Starving puppy found

BCI Security personnel came across this poor brown puppy and made attempts to find its owner.

An extremely emaciated puppy was given a second chance at life after it was found in a terrifying condition in Wilgeheuwel on Friday, 23 March.

BCI Security personnel came across this poor brown puppy and made attempts to find her owner. “The officer posted on our internal WhatsApp group and we then posted the photo of the puppy to various community groups in an effort to locate the owner. I asked the reaction officer to drop the puppy at my home where she would be taken care of until the owner was located,” said Gary Jordaan from BCI Security.

“When the reaction officer arrived with the puppy, my family and I were shocked at the state of the puppy. The neglect suffered by this little girl was absolutely horrific,” Jordaan indicated.

When explaining the dog’s condition, Jordaan said, “She was severely emaciated and extremely weak and could hardly stand or walk. She was dirty and had mange on some parts of her body and was covered in ticks and fleas. She was given a bath in Tick and Flea shampoo and cleaned.”

Since her owner could not be located, the little puppy was given the name ‘Angel’.

“An attempt was made to give Angel some food and water but she constantly refused any. She also had a severe case of diarrhoea and was monitored throughout the night,” Jordaan explained.

He added that on Saturday morning, Angel was taken to a local vet to be checked over. “The vet administered vaccinations and deworming medication as her little tummy was full of worms. Angel was kept under observation at the vet while waiting for her blood test results,” said Jordaan.

Fortunately, her prognosis was good and she returned to the Good Samaritan’s house for further treatment and the care she deserves.

Details about her previous owners were passed on to the SPCA to investigate whether any other animals on the property had suffered the same horrific neglect. Meanwhile, Angel remains at the Good Samaritan’s home.

In January, BCI Security assisted in the rescue of a number of dogs on a property in Strubens Valley, where the owner had left them unattended. During the rescue, a puppy was found inside a water drain and all the dogs were taken to the SPCA.
