Muldersdrift restaurant awarded for recycling efforts

Casalinga has been rewarded by The Glass Recycling Company (TGRC) for their immense glass recycling efforts throughout 2017.

While taking account of the many hospitality establishments’ efforts, TGRC made it their mission to congratulate Gauteng’s top glass recycling establishments by handing commemorative glass plaques to the Top 10.

Casalinga was the only hospitality establishment from the West Rand to feature in the Top 10 and will undoubtedly be aiming to improve on 2017’s efforts in 2018.

Casalinga’s general manager, Lloyd Pienaar, wasn’t aware of the award they would be receiving and felt honoured to receive the award on Friday, 23 March.

“It sure is an amazing surprise and I know for sure that the staff will feel proud to have been in the Top 10 for their efforts,” Lloyd said.

Casalinga recycles their glass on a monthly basis, be it from empty glass bottles, broken glasses, or whatever the case may be.

“Our staff always go out of their way to make sure we recycle whatever glass there is, and at the end of every month we send it to TGRC,” Lloyd said proudly.

TGRC’s CEO, Shabeer Jhetam, encouraged the hospitality sector to continue recycling their glass, as they make a huge difference.

“We are very pleased to be able to reward and commend the top performing establishments in the hospitality sector for their glass recycling efforts,” Shabeer said.

“We encourage the hospitality sector to recycle their glass (bottles and jars) but, while we are impressed by the trend of ‘being green’, we need more commitment from bars, restaurants and hotels. Ultimately, we need these venues to live their green credentials.”

TGRC, which is the country’s leading glass recycling organisation, has managed to bump up the nationwide glass recycling rate from a meagre 18 per cent to a much-improved 41,5 per cent in only 12 years.

“We challenge others to start recycling, as it is one of the easiest ways for them to have a positive impact on the world in which we live,” Shabeer concluded.
