National Epilepsy Awareness Day (Purple Day)

26 March is National Epilepsy Awareness Day, which is observed annually.
This day is also known as Purple Day, as people are encouraged to wear the colour purple to increase Epilepsy Awareness. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), nearly 50 million people live with epilepsy globally.
In many cases, there is no known cause for this condition and it is also not contagious. Some people who suffer from epilepsy had an injury, disease, infection or stroke, which might be the cause.
It is a treatable condition, but – in some parts of the world – treatment is very difficult to get. Epilepsy is a confusing condition, especially for children; that is why awareness and knowledge is so important.
To celebrate today, visit your local library or do an online search and learn more about epilepsy.
