National Ravioli Day

Pasta lovers – enjoy some delicious ravioli on #NationalRavioliDay

20 March is National Ravioli Day, a food holiday that is very popular with pasta lovers.

Ravioli is a traditional type of filled Italian pasta made up of a filling sealed between two layers of thin egg pasta dough. It is usually either served in a broth or with pasta sauce and a variety of fillings are available, ranging from meaty to cheesy.

Although it is often served as a main course, ravioli can also be a side dish or an appetizer. Many popular recipes bake or deep fry the ravioli and if you add chocolate or cream cheese to the stuffing with a caramel sauce, the dish can quickly transform into a delicious dessert.

Ravioli can either be homemade or be purchased from the grocery store – in frozen form or freshly made.

Chef Boyardee from the United States popularised the first canned ravioli, filled with either beef or processed cheese with a tomato, tomato-meat or tomato-cheese sauce, while the toasted ravioli got its start in St Louis, Missouri.

To celebrate today, you can either make your own ravioli or purchase some from your local grocery store. If you are adventurous enough to make your own, you can search for a recipe to make the following:

– Easy ravioli bake,

– Ravioli lasagna,

– Four cheese ravioli,

– Ravioli Dolce (Sweet ravioli).
