Police provide insight into shocking rape incident in Zandspruit

Two suspects entered the shack, one armed with a firearm, demanded money and cellphones and raped the victim.

 

Police in Honeydew are fully engaged in a probe into two alleged rapists involved in a house robbery in Zandspruit on 14 March.

The incident happened at about 20 minutes after midnight at Plot 52 on Marina Road. Explaining the incident, police spokesperson, Captain Balan Muthan said, “The complainant was alone and asleep in the shack while her boyfriend was at work when she heard somebody pulling the door chain, and then kicking the door open.”

He said the two suspects entered the shack, one armed with a firearm. “They demanded money and cellphones. She indicated where they would find both items. The suspect with the firearm then raped her on the bed, as did the accomplice.”

He went on to say, “Both suspects repeatedly raped her. After that they ordered her to lie down and then demanded more money. She tried to explain that they had all of it but the armed suspects hit her with a firearm and she sustained cuts on her head”.

Muthan told Northsider that treatment was arranged for the victim and the case is being prioritised by the investigating officer.
