More info surfaces about child that was knocked over

Eyewitness said he was driving behind taxi when accident occurred.

A resident who witnessed the accident on Friday, 9 February, in which a schoolboy was knocked over, has come forward with more detail.

According to the man, he was driving along Oranje Street behind the taxi, with a Metrobus in front of it. While the Metrobus was stopped to drop off passengers, the taxi driver decided to cross the solid white line to overtake the bus.

It was then that he knocked over the boy who was walking around the front of the bus in order to cross the road. The taxi driver did make a desperate attempt to miss the child, but failed and ended up hitting the opposite pavement after knocking the boy over.

The boy was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition and according to unconfirmed reports has lost his leg.
