National Peanut Cluster Day

Enjoy this sweet and salty treat on #NationalPeanutClusterDay

This delicious sweet and salty treat of melted chocolate mixed with peanuts is celebrated on 8 March, which is National Peanut Cluster Day.

But, before peanut clusters could come into existence, two things needed to happen.

First, a process had to be invented to transform the cocoa bean into what we know today as chocolate. The particular process was not widely used until the late 1800s, and at about the same time, the second important thing happened – agriculture found a way to grow peanuts and get it to the public with steel tools and steam power.

After these processes were invented, it did not take confectioners long to add the now readily available peanuts to melted chocolate. The sheer simplicity of the salty peanuts added to sweetened chocolate proved to be a mouth-watering temptation few could resist – even today.

Celebrate today by enjoying some delicious peanut clusters – either home-made or store-bought. Clusters are very easy to make and the snack can be ready in minutes. Melt the chocolate, add the peanuts and stir them together. Drop a spoonful into a cluster on wax paper or foil and leave to harden. As soon as they have set, you can indulge – but remember to share!
