National Oreo Cookie Day

6 March is National Oreo Cookie day and it is the perfect opportunity to enjoy some Oreo cookies with a glass of milk.
The Oreo sandwich cookie is made up of two chocolate discs with a sweet cream filling between them. This cookie is loved by millions, and since its introduction it has become one of the best selling cookies.
The National Biscuit Company (known as Nabisco today) first developed and produced the Oreo Biscuit in 1912 in its Chelsea factory in New York. Today, the block where the original factory was situated is known as Oreo Way.
Some interesting facts about the Oreo:
– The name – Oreo – was trademarked on 14 March 1912.
– The first Oreo cookies in United States were sold in a clear glass-topped novelty can, for 25 cents a pound.
– The Oreo Biscuit was renamed in 1912 to the Oreo Sandwich.
– The Oreo Sandwich was renamed in 1948 to the Oreo Crème Sandwich.
– In 1952, William A Turnier developed the modern Oreo design to include the Nabisco logo.
– The modern Oreo cookie filling was developed by Nabisco’s principal food scientist, Sam Procello.
To celebrate today is very easy, just grab a handful (or two) of Oreos, grab a glass of milk and enjoy! Remember – before you can eat the Oreo cookie – first you twist it, then you lick it, then you dunk it.
