The Lions of Wilro Club recently hosted an evening of magic, mystery and hypnosis, and the host, world famous hypnotist Max Kaan, had the audience in stitches.
Max, who has been plying his trade in South Africa for the past 25 years, promised the audience a show filled with a lot of laughter, mystery and intrigue, and he did not disappoint. “Tonight’s show is a fundraising event that the members of Wilro Lions organised and when they approached me to ask if I would be keen to host a show, I immediately agreed,” Max said.
He added that he believes that there are two ways of looking at life, and explained, “Either everything is magical, or nothing is magical. And, if you believe it is magical, it will be, and if you don’t believe it is magical is won’t be – you choose.”
Sandy van Heerden, the club’s public relations officer, said, “This is one of our admin fundraisers and we mainly invited friends and family members, requesting them to bring a friend along. This is the perfect opportunity for people to get to know the Lions and see what we do, without having to do anything themselves.”
She added that the aim of the evening was to have friends and family spend time with each other, and enjoy the show while having some popcorn and other delicious treats. “It is also a great way to help people who are thinking of joining the Lions to reach a decision. After all, if you do not enjoy what you are doing, why would you want to volunteer?” Sandy said.
Kevin and Janie Opperman came all the way from Witbank to attend the show and said, “This will be the second of Max’s shows that we will be seeing, and we are very excited. People are always afraid of being hypnotised because they believe they will be forced to do stupid things, but, the truth of the matter is, a hypnotist will not be able to hypnotise you if you do not want to be hypnotised.
Also, while hypnotised, you cannot do anything that is against your moral standards, it is only your inhibitions that are a bit lowered – almost like being a little drunk,”Janie explained.
The audience was thoroughly entertained, and enjoyed the antics of the hypnotised volunteers. After the show, they had an opportunity to socialise with each other, while having a bite to eat.
