Taxi drivers and motorists moved rocks on South Road

The date for repairs to start on the sinkhole in South Road has not been set yet.

Motorists are warned not to remove the rocks that were placed in the road to cordon off the section where a huge sinkhole had developed due to heavy rain.

According to DA councillor René Benjamin, it is a lawless and reckless act since it endangers others’ lives. “Taxi drivers removed some of the rocks and now drive along the pavement to avoid using an alternative road. This creates unnecessary havoc on that road,” she said.

During a site meeting with Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA) and the project engineer on 13 February, they noticed that the road signage had been removed or stolen.

“The signage will now be fixed with cement. On this stretch of road some motorists are impatient and behave recklessly. Common courtesy no longer exists,” René said.
