‘Bad’ Florida cops off the hook – for now

Prosecutor says not enough evidence to prosecute.

The two Florida Police officers, Shumane ‘Nancy’ Moshoeswe and Rudzani Tadizi are free – for now.

The charges of intimidation, corruption and assault had to be struck off the court roll on 4 February, apparently due to the investigating officer’s (I/O) tardy investigation. In three months the I/O has taken only one statement from a complainant. The two were arrested on 12 June 2017. As the counts against them piled up, the case was postponed numerous times in order to finalise the docket.

Complainants alleged that the two ruled the streets of Newlands, Florida and Sophiatown for years, and had close ties with the drug underworld. These allegations have yet to be proven.

State Prosecutor Paseka Temeki indicated that should the investigation be completed satisfactorily, the State reserved the right to prosecute again.
