UPDATE: Robbed church sets the record straight

According to the church, no congregants were targeted.

The Little Falls Christian Centre has come out to share their version of what really transpired on Sunday night 11 February.

Initially reports were that the church congregants were left traumatised when a group of armed men stormed into the premises, robbed them and then attacked security officers who were at the scene.

A leader of the church who wished to remain anonymous said on Tuesday that none of the congregants were robbed as the incident occurred long after the evening service had ended.

“It was an armed robbery later during the night. The armed robbers held the security guard, got into the church building and took some items,” the man said, emphasising that not a single soul was harmed during the incident.

According to information BCI Security posted on Facebook, four armed robbers in a white Nissan Navara bakkie were involved in the attack. The post reads that a security reaction officer who drove past the scene amid the robbery was wounded by a bullet that went through the vehicle’s door, and a guard from the church’s security company was kidnapped by the robbers.

The church leader also made it clear that the injured security guard was responding to the robbery. “The security officer faced the robbers and was shot,” he added without revealing too much information as the matter is still subject to police investigation.

Vitalmed General Manager, Tyron Pieterse confirmed to Northsider that the reaction officer was shot through the vehicle door. He said the man sustained a gunshot wound to his right thigh and was transported to Life Flora Hospital where he is recovering.

The security guard who had been kidnapped by the robbers reportedly was found dumped at a petrol station in Ruimsig not long after the robbery incident.
