At about 9pm yesterday (11 February) a family residing on Drakenstein Street in Witpoortjie fell prey to an armed robbery.
According to Frik van Zyl of West Suburbs Roodepoort Neighbourhood Watch a green and white taxi with four occupants stopped at the house and lifted the gate of its track. The three, one of them armed, entered the house and while demanding the family’s valuables the two brothers, who live in the house, noticed that the intruder’s weapon was actually a BB gun. They acted and a scuffle broke out during which they managed to overpower him, but his three accomplices fled the scene.
