National Plum Pudding Day

Have some of this delicious dessert on #NationalPlumPuddingDay

12 February is National Plum Pudding Day, the perfect day to learn more about this delicious dessert.

Plum pudding – also known as Christmas pudding – is a steamed or boiled pudding usually served during the holiday season.

Many recipes for plum pudding do not actually contain any plums and the reason for this is that in the 17th century, plums were referred to as raisins or other fruits. Plum pudding is usually made up of nutmeg, raisins, nuts, apples, cinnamon and dates, along with other ingredients. Plum pudding has also been known as Plum Duff.

The name Christmas Pudding was first recorded in 1858 in an Anthony Trollope novel.

In England, the tradition was for every member in the household to hold on to the wooden spoon and stir the batter together. While stirring, they also had to make a wish!

To celebrate today, page through some recipe books or search for one online, invite your friends and family over and enjoy some yummy plum pudding.
