‘Now we see him, now we don’t’ – Houdini still on the run

Cora Bailey, founder of Community Led Animal Welfare (Claw), provided an update on the situation with Roodepoort’s resident escape artist.

Houdini,k the lone baboon, has been on the run for about a month now, after first being spotted at Cradlestone Mall on Monday, 15 January.

He was chased off the roof by contractors and has been on the run ever since.

Claw, along with a handful of volunteers, has come ever so close on a few occasions but he just won’t take the bait, according to Cora.

“He has access to lots of indigenous plants and vegetable gardens, and has not been tempted by the treats we put in the cages,” Cora stated.

According to Cora, they’ve also set up cages in places where they bellieve he visits often, in an effort to catch him.

“We have placed special trap cages in areas that he frequents on a regular basis,” said Cora.

“We have a larger trap which we have placed in Helderkruin, and hopefully we will be successful.”

Cora ended by thanking everybody for their patience with regard to the matter.

“We continue to try, and want to thank the community for their kindness and understanding.”
