Joburg Water repairs burst pipe

Issac Dhludlu confirmed that repairs to the burst pipe had been completed by Johannesburg Water on 6 February.

A burst pipe on Confidence Street in Strubens Valley has been repaired.

Issac Dhludlu, spokesperson for Johannesburg Water (JW) confirmed that repairs were completed on 6 February. “The burst pipe has been repaired and the call was closed this morning,” he said.

More than 1 000 litres of clean water went to waste since 4 February when the resident first reported the matter to JW, claiming to the Northsider that the water gushed out ‘long’ after he had reported it to the entity.

Dhludlu extended his gratitude to residents who take time to inform JW about damaged and leaking pipes; however, he appealed for patience as workers attend to different incidents across the city.

“We appreciate the residents’ efforts to report all water and sewer leaks in the City of Johannesburg. All reported problems are processed by call centre agents and a reference number will be issued to the client,” he explained.

He added, “After the reference number has been issued, job cards are processed by the depot that services that particular area. Our standard turnaround times range from 24 to 48 hours; however some jobs are escalated for immediate attention as we understand that circumstances differ.

“We therefore urge all customers to be patient and understanding as our teams attend to jobs with varying degrees of complexity, which understandably affect completion times. In some instances a customer would receive assistance within an hour of logging a call, and in others it could take longer than expected, although within the stipulated turnaround time.”
