Goods vehicle robbed of parcels valued at R600 000

Hijackings are seemingly getting out of hand with incidents being reported almost every day. What do you think is the best response when confronted by hijackers – would you fight back or flee?

Goods with an estimated value of R600 000 destined for delivery were stolen when a company bakkie was blocked at the T-junction of Johan and Taylor Roads in Honeydew on 2 February.

Honeydew Police Station spokesperson, Captain Balan Muthan confirmed the incident and investigation, saying that the driver of the bakkie, a Nissan NP200, was blocked by a white Ford Kuga.

“The driver saw another NP200 with an unknown registration parked on the side of the road with a man inside. When he drove past, he was blocked by the Kuga.

“Its occupants approached his vehicle, pointed firearms at him and instructed him to open the door. They drove off with him still in the vehicle and dropped him off on Magnum Road,” Muthan explained, adding that no shots being fired or injuries were reported.
