Race around the mall to raise funds for charity

Winners will be categorised as first, second and third position, with prizes for the best team spirit and the best decorated trolley.

Roodepoort’s Round Table 162i will be hosting its annual trolley race in the form of an expanded race on 3 March at Clearwater Mall.

The chairperson, Riaan Wennick, said the event will start at 7.30am, and as in the past, there are prizes to the value of R10 000 up for grabs.

He added that registration for the event will start at 6.30am on race day, and teams will also have the opportunity to collect and decorate their trolleys on the day at the starting point.

Each team consists of four people – one team member is the pilot, sitting inside a shopping trolley and the other three team members will push the trolley around a 2,5km demarcated track in the parking lot of the mall. The team needs to pass the check point and finish line at the same time to qualify for a place, and only the three nominated members are allowed to push the trolley.

It is a fun experience for those who participate in the race. However, the entry fee is R500 per trolley and all profits are donated to the Roodepoort Round Table 162i club’s charity fund. All the money raised will then be split equally between the club’s two main charitable beneficiaries, which are the Gateway Society (both the Village and the School) as well as Matla-a-Bana West Rand, an organisation raising a voice against child abuse.

For more information on the race, or to obtain entry forms, contact Riaan by sending an email to riaan@roundtable162.co.za or visit their Facebook page.
