Taxi industry assists raped pre-teen with further medical treatment
The Faraday Taxi Association condemned the incident and partnered with the police, community and its members to try and nab the driver.
The rape of an 11-year-old, allegedly by a Faraday Taxi Association taxi driver, remains unsolved as the suspect remains in hiding without a single trace a week later.
Spokesperson for Muldersdrift Police Station, Warrant Officer Masedi Masedi, indicated that an arrest has not been made yet; however, the search continues.
“We haven’t arrested him, he is still at large – we’re not even sure if he is still in the province,” said Masedi.
The man, a well-known taxi driver in the taxi industry and currently in hiding, is sought by police and his taxi industry colleagues after it emerged that he raped the girl on 20 January in Joe Slovo Informal Settlement.

The matter was reported by the victim’s parents at the police station.
Masedi told Northsider that the police took the child to a government hospital where the injuries inflicted on her were documented on a J88 form. The J88 is an official form issued by the Department of Justice which documents the medico-legal examination that a healthcare practitioner performs on a victim and highlights findings that are potentially relevant for legal action.
The taxi industry’s Rackson Mudzanani, who is still ashamed of the driver’s behaviour, shared their latest intervention following the incident. “The driver is still at large, but what we did was we met with councillors and leaders of the community, and the leadership decided to take the girl to a private doctor for further checkups after being admitted to a public hospital,” said Mudzanani.
He added that family also asked that the child be taken for counselling.
Mudzanani further explained that they’ve summoned the father of the driver, who is also a taxi owner, to a meeting to discuss his son’s disappearance.
