Security company recovers bakkie after shootout in Roodekrans

DMS Security responded to a call from the Roodekrans Neighbourhood Watch.

A security company successfully prevented a bakkie being stolen, but not before a shootout.

At about 4.30am today (1 February) DMS Security reaction officers heard from the Roodekrans Neighbourhood Watch that a gate to a property on Gladiolus Street was standing slightly open. When they stopped at the address someone suddenly came running out, with three others hot on his heels. The officers, Christo Neethling en JP Bornman jumped out and tried to chase down the suspects. The suspects fired at the officers, who returned fire. But the suspects jumped perimeter walls and managed to escape.

It is suspected that the intruders gained access to the Toyota Hilux by means of a jamming device. They then broke open the ignition before being interrupted. Two laptops, the jamming device and the bakkie were recovered.

The owners’ security company arrived shortly afterwards, followed by the police.
