Drug dealer chummy with cops

Residents tried to report suspected dealer's activities to police.

Residents in Roodepoort North, especially in the Third Avenue area, are unhappy with the shenanigans of an alleged drug dealer who makes no secret of his activities.

At least three residents contacted the Record and wanted to tell their story on condition of anonymity since they fear the suspected drug dealer will endanger their lives. One woman said, “I was walking down my street, which for the last 18 years has been peaceful and tranquil, and witnessed something disturbing. I was shocked to see a young man in a gold Opel Corsa blatantly selling drugs to some West Ridge kids. I was horrified to also see a little girl, not older than five years, with the two West Ridge kids.

Shortly after this, I saw a police van driving past the same dealer, greeting him by name.”

The residents said they even know the address where he, and a number of families, lived until recently. Apparently he was kicked out but is still seen operating in the same two street blocks. He now often rides on a white scooter instead of the Corsa ‘while on business’.

Another complainant said someone who lives close to the house where the drug dealer used to reside, even took photos of him bribing the police. The person went to report the culprit, but got no joy. The officer at Roodepoort Police Station, regardless of the fact that he was given the vehicle registration numbers of the dealer and the police, and the address of the house, told him, “There is nothing we can do”. He said the whole community had to make affidavits. The resident said he first saw the police taking bribes from the suspected dealer close to Christmas and took the photo on 16 January.

The Record is in the process of obtaining comment from Roodepoort Police.
