Witpoortjie girl injured after falling from bus

Exact circumstances surrounding incident unknown

The incident happened at approximately 3.15pm on General Pienaar Avenue, Witpoortjie. According to Ineke van Huyssteen, the spokesperson for ER24, when paramedics arrived on scene, they found a 10-year-old girl lying on the side of the road.

“Although the circumstances surrounding the incident are not known, it appeared that she fell out of the bus and sustained moderate injuries, including to her legs.

Paramedics could not determine on the scene if there were any fractures, so she was transported to hospital for further medical care and assistance,” she said.

The bus was transporting school children, and according to the majority of them, it appeared as if the girl jumped out of the bus. “The bus driver stopped for some of the passengers to get off, and, just as he pulled away, the girl jumped off. She fell and the bus drove over her legs,” one girl said.
