13 donations each, 78 lives saved

In the last year, Adrian Ziller and Liam Doyle have donated blood 13 times, which equates to a possible 39 lives each (78 in total) that they've saved.

Adrian Ziller and Liam Doyle have been friends for the last 25 years, having met in their first year at Florida Park High School.

Adrian is a part-time musician but is also the Head of Department at Blue Pencil Creative on a daily basis.

Liam, on the other hand, is an estate agent for Remax 2000, and often handles properties in the Honeydew area, with song-writing being his preferred hobby.

Despite belonging to opposite ends of the belief spectrum, they have remained friends for 25 years, with their knowledge of ancient history and its texts often acting as the mediator in their arguments.

“We often have lengthy conversations about whose denomination is right or wrong, and since we’re both educated in ancient history, these get very interesting,” Adrian said.

“Our conversations never get heated or out of hand at all. We often hear each other out and laugh it off in the end.”

Their shared part-time passion for music is also a key binding factor between the two.

The two of them have been donating blood for about 20 years now, and have been doing so ‘religiously’ for the last year. In the last year, they have donated blood 13 times.

Given that each donation is a possible three lives saved, those 13 times account for a possible 78 lives saved by the two of them.

Adrian feels that heroes don’t necessarily wear capes and colourful outfits, and that by donating blood you could be someone’s hero.

“People imagine superheroes as these big guys in tights and spandex who fly around wherever they go,” said Adrian with a laugh, “but donating blood is a passive way to be a hero.”
