UPDATE: Eye-witness describes horrific events in alleged BMW Z4 hijacking

The eyewitness, who wished to remain anonymous, happened to be driving past as the incident occurred.

A passer-by turned eyewitness has come forward to describe the events that took place during the frightening shootout between alleged hijackers and the occupants of a white BMW Z4 at the intersection of Ontdekkers and Hendrik Potgieter Roads on 23 January.

The eyewitness, who wished to remain anonymous, was driving past as the incident took place.

“I happened to drive past as the incident was taking place. The criminals got out of a blue 3-series BMW. There were four of them; two had handguns, and one had an assault rifle which looked like an AK47 type of rifle,” he recalled.

The eyewitness described how the suspects cornered the targeted vehicle. “They were in effect standing guard around the car they were trying to hijack, while the fourth guy was trying to get something out of the car,” the witness explained.

“He [the suspect] was hanging over the driver’s seat and the person in the car was screaming in a high-pitched voice, and sounded like a woman.”

“I drove a bit further and the next robot caught me and that’s when about 15 or so gunshots went off. The robot went green and I got out of there,” the witness said.

Florida police confirmed that the Z4 was occupied by two people, a man and his mother, who were shot and subsequently rushed to hospital.

The motive remains unknown to the police; however, a case of attempted murder is being investigated.
