National Nothing Day

Celebrate absolutely nothing on #NationalNothingDay

16 January is National Nothing Day, a day that is literally about doing nothing at all. There is absolutely no purpose or intended structure for this pointless celebration.

This day – similar to an Un-Birthday or Buy Nothing Day – is celebrated since 1973. National Nothing Day was first proposed by the late Harold Coffin, an American newspaper columnist and was founded with the intent of eventual self destruction through satirically reigning in what Coffin considered a glut of recently established and mostly useless commemorative days. Coffin’s Nothing Organisation was formed at the same time to raise awareness for National Nothing Day, and quite fittingly, not a single meeting has been held yet.

As this day is all about expending little to no effort on celebrating absolutely nothing, it can also be about celebrating life itself. The only limits on how the day is spent, are the imagination and bank balance of the participant.
