After numerous attempts to close South Road, Ward 71 councillor René Benjamin, with the help of Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) and Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) was finally successful.
This time around they placed large rocks around the area to cordon off the road. Motorist will not be able to move them as they did with the other barriers.

“We are closing this section of the road from both directions to keep motorists safe. We urged them to use alternative routes,” she said. She added that they are not sure how long the road will be closed, but said JRA will start with the project soon. A meeting with JRA will be held on 16 January to discuss the project.
