Stop-and-search operations yield results

41 suspects arrested

Special duties, including raids and stop-and-search operations performed by the Roodepoort Police resulted in several arrests.

The operations took place from 5 to 7 January, and according to captain Nonhlanhla Khumalo, their spokesperson, 41 suspects between the ages of 25 and 53 were arrested. The charges include:

• Assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm

• Possession of dagga

• Possession of drugs

• Theft

• Shoplifting

• Common assault (domestic violence)

• Intimidation

• Contravention of Liquor Act

• Drunken driving

• Public drinking

“All suspects were charged and detained at Roodepoort Police Station and will appear in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court soon,” Khumalo concluded.
