Blood bank not shaken by current blood levels

Find out at which centre you can donate blood in this January.

Lebo Seathloho, the Public Relations Practitioner at the South African National Blood Service, has indicated that blood stocks are still at acceptable levels despite the festive season being marred by accidents across the country.

According to the SANBS website, the blood-stock levels are currently sitting above 50 per cent reserve, except type AB levels that are at 42 per cent, which is not alarming.

Lebo told Northsider that they run regular blood drives at various shopping centres and have fixed donor centres. She advised donors to visit their website or call their toll-free number 0800 11 9031 for details about donor centres closest to them.

She also listed a number of shopping centres in Joburg West where blood drives will be conducted this month.

• Cradlestone Mall from 8 to 10 January between 9am to 3pm

• Kagiso Mall on 10 January from 10am to 3pm

• Randridge Mall on 12 January from 10am to 3pm

• President Square Krugersdorp on 13 January from 10am to 3pm

• Clearwater Mall from 27 to 29 January between 9am to 6pm
