Maragon Ruimsig learner earns commendable achievement

Michael Philips earned an IEB commendable achievement after he placed among the top five per cent of IEB candidates in five subjects.

Michael Philips was a true product of the Maragon Ruimsig system. He joined the school way back in 2004 as a learner in the Grade 00 class.

Michael would turn out to be Maragon Ruimsig’s top achiever and only Commendable Achievement recipient 13 year later.

He attained distinctions in all eight his subjects (English Home Language, Afrikaans First Additional Language, Mathematics, Life Orientation, Physical Sciences, Information Technology, Accounting and Advanced Programme Mathematics) with an average of 90,8 per cent.

He would go on to place among the top five per cent in five of his subjects and top one per cent in two (Information Technology and Mathematics).

In addition to being a dedicated academic, Michael also runs his very own YouTube channel, mcpemike which has over 270 000 subscribers and more than 58 million page views in total.

He also plays the guitar, and managed to reach the national round of the Talent Search competition in 2016.

Michael also boasts an incredible list of achievements at Maragon High School Ruimsig.

He was the high school head boy, debating chairman in 2016, earned a President’s Award Gold Certificate and also earned full colours in academics, leadership, service and culture.

Michael plans to study towards a BSc in Actuarial Science at the University of Pretoria.

“I chose this course because I have an affinity for maths, science and statistics and I also enjoy challenging myself to work towards a goal,” he said.
