Improve your spirituality this year

Listen to your body and give it what it needs.

This year, like any other, many people spoke about bettering themselves and putting their health first and it’s time to turn the words into action.

According to a spiritual leader, Dr James Sibiya, people seek spiritual growth at the beginning of the year more than they do at any other time of year.

“New Year is the perfect time to reflect and consider how they can better or enrich themselves on a spiritual level,” said James.

Getting enough sleep is said to be one way to keep you from feeling defeated. Research shows enough sleep or rest protects the immune system against depression. “Our bodies recharge and our concentration improves when we get adequate sleep.”

Riah Louw said physical exercise and a healthy balanced diet are essential. “People don’t realise that by taking care of your body through exercise and good, clean food, it will become aligned with your spirituality. This means there are things that spiritual people should refrain from eating, drinking and using,” said Riah.

Prayer and meditation play a vital part in developing your spirituality and maintaining a healthy spiritual life. “Prayer and meditation ease stress, frustration and anger. Yoga assists in attaining physical and spiritual well-being,” said Ria.

“Learn from every situation, and never be ashamed to admit when you are in the wrong. Mature people are always open to learning and asking questions,” said James.

Experts have said that to achieve peace, you should spend at least 10 minutes every day in complete silence and reflect on your day.
