Local beauty wants to make a positive impact in the community

‘The pageant uses the motto: Beauty with brains and purpose’

“I have never modelled before, this is my first time, that is why I am so excited about being a Miss Eagle SA Brand Ambassador.”

Twenty-six-year-old Yonela Mcibo is a Miss Eagle South Africa 2018 Brand Ambassador, representing Gauteng. She resides in Florida and describes herself as a “God-fearing woman who enjoys reading, helping other people and contributing to the community.”

Yonela completed Grade 12 in 2010, and is currently employed as a Forensic Investigator for an Identity Guard Company based in Randburg.

She explained that the pageant is a women empowerment contest using the “Beauty with brains and a purpose” platform to empower young women to grow and develop themselves by making a positive impact in their respective communities.

“Contestants go through four different levels – contestant, brand ambassador, semifinalist and finalist – and have to progress through them all to win the title. Everything we do is based on a point system and we have different aspects we score points on,” she said.

The contestants get to participate in many fun activities that promote personal development and growth. “We have the opportunity to engage with celebrities, get involved with charities in our communities, and learn the art of modelling, fashion and beauty. We are also encouraged to identify and grow our own unique talents through the fierce (but fun) bonus challenges,” Yonela said.

The voting lines for the Public Choice Awards are currently open, and to help Yonela realise her dream, vote for her by SMSing ‘Yonela’ to 35334 (SMSes cost R3).
