F46 Rand Water contractors restore green in Welties

'If rain persists, the whole area treated will be green again within eight to 10 days, and the area will look as it did before the construction started.'

As the F46 Rand Water pipeline project heads towards its conclusion in Weltevreden Park, the contractor has started rehabilitating the area.

On 13 December, the contractor started aqua-seeding (re-greening) the road reserve along JG Strydom Road, the area just below Lobelia Street and the service corridor coming down to Kastaiing Road.

The community liaison officer, Jan von de Heyde, said aqua-seeding involves dispersing water under pressure from a water tanker. He added that the water contains wild grass seeds and vitalizers.“If rain persists, the whole area treated will be green again within eight to 10 days. The area will look as it did before the construction started,” said Jan.

Jan also explained why the company opted to use aqua-seeding to regrow grass in the area. “Aqua-seeding is the most economical and efficient way compared to hand seeding which is cheaper but can be pointless, because the seeds get blown away when it’s windy,” he clarified.

The pipeline is expected to be complete by next year.
