Site of electrocution still poses danger

"I can't even go and water the flowers I have left on the spot where Ruan died as I fear for my life,"

Melanie Kruger, mother of Ruan who was electrocuted in the veld next to Kingsley Road, said nothing has been done about the illegal connections that led to her son’s death.

Ruan was electrocuted on 28 November when he went to investigate after being alerted that persons were making illegal connections behind the complex he resided in. He died under suspicious circumstances as it is believed he was pushed onto the live wires when confronting the culprits. Now Melanie has said that illegal connections have been made again and that City Power and other relevant stakeholders have done nothing about the matter. She also said that three men, believed to have been the same three men involved in Ruan’s death, have moved into a derelict house right next to the complex and not far from the illegal connections.

“I can’t even go and water the flowers I have left on the spot where Ruan died as I fear for my life,” said Melanie.

The Record is in the process of obtaining comment from City Power.
