Councillor wishes residents a happy holiday

Councillor looks back on an exciting year filled with lots of challenges

“I would like to take the opportunity to wish all residents and their loved ones a blessed festive season,” said the councillor for Ward 84, Gert Niemand.

He said that, although 2017 was an exciting year, it was filled with a lot of challenges. “We started the year fighting backlogs on long grass, illegal dumping, street lights not working and a lot of potholes, but, together we managed to work through it. We elected ward committee members, and our residents actively participated in the Integrated Development Plan,” he said.

Residents were also assured that the urban decay and transportation hub in the Roodepoort Central Business District will be dealt with by a task team, and he said, “Residents will also be able to enjoy the use of the Roodepoort Library early next year, as it will be fully renovated. Additional Johannesburg Social Housing Company housing will be built and Ward 84 will be ready for fibre to home, as the Vumatel and Vodacom projects will be in place.”

He extended his thanks to all of the Region C staff members in the various City of Johannesburg municipal departments who worked together to deliver better services to residents. “I would like to extend a special word of thanks to the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department officers for their vigilance in keeping residents safe, and for always working hand in hand with the area’s Community Policing Forums and Sector Crime teams,” Gert said.

Gert concluded by saying, “May you all be inspired to contribute positively to those around you and may 2018 be a year in which we continue to build a brighter, more inclusive community in Roodepoort. I hold my head up high, secure in the knowledge that we have been able to affect and impact the lives of Roodepoort’s citizens. I will be on leave from 15 December until 2 January, and the councillor for Ward 70, Caleb Finn, will be standing in for me.”
