Repossessed vehicle recovered after eight years

The vehicle, an old model BMW, was approached by a local security company in Strubens Valley, when they became suspicious about it.

A driver who has been enjoying his car without maintaining his finance payments for over eight years was stripped of his ownership when he was confronted by the authorities on 6 December.

The vehicle, an old model BMW, was approached by a local security company in Strubens Valley, when they became suspicious about it.

“At about 6.30pm, our TRT officers came across a suspicious vehicle in Strubens Valley. One of them spoke with the occupant and during his investigation, he discovered that the vehicle’s registration number did not correspond with the vehicle’s licence disc,” said Gary Jordaan from BCI Security.

“A check on the registration revealed that the number plate on the vehicle was false, “ he added.

“Further investigation was done and it was found that the vehicle was wanted by a Vehicle Finance Company and a court order for repossession was granted in 2009,” Jordaan explained.

He said the Honeydew police and the vehicle recovery team from the financial institution were called to the scene.

“The vehicle was repossessed by the financial institution’s recovery officer on the strength of the court order. The vehicle was in essence stolen, as the suspect hadn’t maintained payment on the vehicle and was also using false number plates to conceal the real identity of the vehicle,” Jordaan concluded.
