Young hurler with great potential

See Minette Brits' overall results from recent tournaments.

The throwing game of 10-year-old shot-putter Minette Brits has become the highlight of the year at both her sports club and school.

The Laerskool Roodekrans learner has enjoyed a successful year in the shot-put circle, following her incredible display in recent tournaments, which has earned her the title of the cream of the crop in the sport.

Minette, who trains under Accelerada Academy, a local athletics sports club based at the Ruimsig Athletics Stadium, regularly placed on the podium at school and club level.

Her results are as follows:

In September, Minette scooped first place at her school’s inter-house tournament, with a put of 7,5 metres, and another first for a hurl of 7,3 metres against Laerskool Krugersdorp Noord.

In October, she travelled to Laerskool Generaal Hendrik Schoeman, where she was placed second after tossing the shot a distance of 7 metres.

Towards the end of October and early November, Minette competed in the Central Gauteng Athletics competitions in Germiston and Ruimsig, and was placed third in both events.
