How to register your domestic worker for UIF

Most people are not aware that they need to register their domestic workers for UIF. Here is how to do it.

Many people are not aware that when their domestic worker works more than 24 hours a month, they need to be registered for UIF. Here are easy steps to register for UIF:

How to register online:

• Get the necessary information ready – You will need the ID numbers of both employer and employee as well as both of your addresses.
• Complete the online registration which can be found here.

How to register via email

• Get the UI-8D and UI-19 forms here.
• Complete the forms for both yourself and your worker(s). The form for the registration of workers asks for an employer reference number. If you do not have a reference number yet, you can leave this part blank. The UIF will create a reference number and send it to you. Also ignore the part asking for a signature.
• Email the forms to webmaster@uif.gov.za

How to register via telephone

• Get information like the ID numbers and addresses of employers and workers ready before phoning the UIF office.
• Phone the UIF office on (012) 337 1680 and follow the instructions of the UIF official.

How to register via fax

• Get the UI-8D for domestic/private household and UI-19 forms from the nearest Department of Labour or Department of Labour’s website here.
• Complete the forms for both yourself and your worker(s). The form for the registration of workers asks for an employer reference number If you do not have a reference number yet, you can leave this part blank. The UIF will create a reference number and send it to you.
• Fax the completed forms to the UIF at 086 713 3000.

How to register via post

• Get the UI-8D and UI-19 forms here.
• Complete the forms for both yourself and your worker(s). The form for the registration of workers asks for an employer reference number. If you do not have a reference number yet, you can leave this part blank. The UIF will create a reference number and send it to you.

How to register at a Labour Centre

• Get information like the ID numbers and addresses of employers and workers ready before going to the Labour Centre.
• Get the UI-8 and UI-19 (for business employers) or the UI-8D and UI-19 (for domestic employers) forms from the Labour Centre staff.
• Complete the forms for both yourself and your worker(s). The form for the registration of workers asks for an employer reference number. Iif you do not have a reference number yet, you can leave this part blank. The UIF will create a reference number and send it to you.
• Hand the forms to the Labour Centre staff.
